The Issue

Breed discrimination is no longer in the ordinances in Huron County, Ohio. However, it is still happening. Bella, a 4 yr old Pit mix, was ordered to be removed from her home in the city of Norwalk, and the county of Huron, permanently. Her owner was given fines, 30 days in jail, and 5 yrs of probation, all due to Bella protecting her 4 yr old, human family member. The 4 yr old was outside playing in their fenced in yard when a neighbor dog lunged aggressively, forcing itself under the fence, in attempt to attack the 4 yr old. Bella was not near the child when it first happened. However, upon hearing the growling and barking of the attacking dog, Bella was provoked to run to the child's defense, understandably, and fight off the attacker, like any good dog, or human would do to protect a defenseless child. Bella's owner was told in court, that she needed to participate in an investigation about the incident and that she did not need to have an Attorney present. Afterwards, she was given maximum penalties, and the instigating dog and family were given nothing. Bella's owner, has owned their home for 13 rs and is now trying to move so that they can be re-united with their family pet. Bella has no history of aggression, and has been exposed to and lived with several other family dogs, cats, foster dogs and children. It is obvious that Bella and her owner were treated unfairly due to Bella's breed. We believe that this case should be reopened and tried with a new judge and for Bella's owner to have the chance to have an Attorney present. We also feel that this issue needs to be addressed to prevent this from happening again to future residents and bully breeds residing in Huron County. This will be very costly to reopen the case, but animal advocates across the United States are willing to donate funds to help to create a change in Huron County's unfair treatment of bully breeds and to see Justice for Bella!! PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION IF YOU AGREE THAT BELLA AND HER OWNER WERE TREATED UNFAIRLY, THE CASE SHOULD BE REOPENED AND TRIED WITH A DIFFERENT JUDGE, AND HURON COUNTY, OHIO, SHOULD STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST BULLY BREEDS, THEIR OWNERS, AND FAMILIES!!
