Huntsville Multi-Use Park

Huntsville Multi-Use Park
The Issue
With the Becky Peirce Municipal Golf Course at John Hunt Park being up for redevelopment, the cycling community would love to see a Multi-Use park that would cater to a variety of interests and athletes including mountain bikers, runners, and others. A multi-use park would include a bike park that would provide a training location for mountain bikers, cyclocross riders, and BMX riders of all levels. The "Huntsville Bike Park" is the suggested name for this portion of the multi-use park. The Huntsville Bike Park would benefit a large section of our local cycling community and provide for community and school based opportunities, as well as skills development, general health benefits, and cycling club events.
Off-road cyclists, mountain bikers, cyclocross riders, and BMX riders do not currently have a dedicated place to ride – a safe location where beginners to advanced riders can learn, progress, and perfect technical skills and improve physical fitness. Construction of the Huntsville Bike Park on a portion of the golf course site would provide a safe place for riders to practice, with a huge benefit of being centrally located to the Huntsville community. The proposed site already has essential amenities such as restrooms, water fountains, and abundant parking.
This petition proposes a strong partnership between the City of Huntsville and the growing cycling community, represented by NAMTBa, NICA, and SORBA Huntsville, and the many other cycling, trail running, and hiking enthusiasts in our city, to redevelop the proposed land into a multi-use park, including the Huntsville Bike Park. By signing this petition you are giving your support to the creation of a park that will mutually benefit the community and the city by using minimal funds to redevelop an outdated, high cost recreation area into an multi-use park that will enrich the local economy, and give our community new options for outdoor recreation.
