The Issue

Meeting today August 11th...Huntington Long Island NY to allow slaughter our deer by bow hunting. Don't allow bow hunting in our area. Today at 2pm the Huntington Town Board will vote on allowing bow hunting in our area. They will allow residents to shoot deer on their property with bows.  This is dangerous. Our woods are a place of peace for many who walk their dogs, hike, ride their horses, or just go to meditate on one of the beautiful overlooks. It is also home to many animals including rare and or endangered birds.  If a deer gets hit and does not die it will run into the woods in panic. A child could get hurt or traumatized by the sight. Worse the arrow could miss and go into the woods hitting a child, a horse, or a dog, killing them or causing serious injury. Some of these bows can travel up to 200 yards, and they are not accurate means of slaughter.  The internet is filled with pictures and stories of injuries and death as a result of errant arrows. It is also filled with stories of hunters that shoot and miss the mark only to have the animal suffer for hours or days before its found and put out of its misery. Most recently the lion and the dentist story. The lion was wounded and hunted for over 40 hours.  Our woods are not that big. The animal could run into traffic in a panic, into a school yard, a playground, or another persons yard where they may be entertaining or playing with their children. Don't turn our yards into a war zone. Please sign this petition.
