Refuse the Richter-Casselly families’ application for zoo license! (Hungarian Authorities)

Refuse the Richter-Casselly families’ application for zoo license! (Hungarian Authorities)

The Issue

The notoriously cruel Richter circus family have applied for a zoo license in Szada near Budapest, Hungary. The exotic and dangerous wild animals of the park have during 2020 been kept at the venue operating under a menagerie license. During this time violations of the license have been frequent and little attention has been paid to the safety of either visitors or Local residents nor to animal welfare. In late October it was revealed that two African elephants Betty and Mambo had died here during August in highly suspicious circumstances, the deaths were hidden, no autopsies were performed and the elephants were then buried at Szada illegally! The Hungarian authorities initiated official proceedings for violation of the rules of animal protection and destruction of animal carcasses, as well as for the suspicion of animal torture. As more and more people turn their backs on circus’s with animals for ethical reasons. The circus people are seeking alternative ways to exploit their animals, the venue may change but the cruelty and lack of care remains the same. We call upon the Hungarian authorities to decline the zoo license to protect the safety and wellbeing of visitors, local residents and the animals.
