Rich Minewski started this petition to University of California Santa Barbara

Due to the ongoing student housing shortage crisis, an increasingly disconcerting number of incoming students have been unable to find housing. UCSB has failed to adequately address this situation, and a growing number of students and/or their parents are concerned they will be homeless, living out of their cars, or be unable to begin studies at UCSB at all.

Thus far, UCSB's only attempt at a solution has been sending an email to their campus community asking anyone with an "extra room" to consider housing an incoming student. UCSB should be embarrassed that a University of their size, charging the tuition it does, thinks simply sending an email is an acceptable solution for students on the verge of homelessness.

Historically, Universities have addressed housing shortages by negotiating with local hotel chains to house incoming students:

Overcrowding puts 500 Rutgers students in hotel
Duke to house students in hotels

We are asking you to sign this petition to place public pressure on UCSB to take action and negotiate affordable housing with local hotel chains for all incoming students who have been unable to find housing.
