An "official" statement from the person who authorized the slaughter of more than 1,600 Canada Geese in 2019 and about 500 this year has indicated killing may not be necessary next year. He does not state that there will be no killing. He has left the door open.

Further, Gilmore states that he "consulted" with a number of wildlife experts AND Colorado's First Gentleman Marlon Reis. There was no such consultation. There was, however, a zoom meeting between academics, highly educated biologists, Denver Mayor's chief of staff, and Gilmore. The Mayor was also expected to attend. He was a no-show and, to date, has not sent an apology. Typical of the way he operates it appears.

In a statement issued by Dr Marc Bekoff, he disputes the results of the meeting (in which he was an attendee).

In Scott Gilmore's response about the killing of Denver's geese he wrote:

"DPR consulted with US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), USDA-Wildlife Services (USDA-WS) and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) federal and state agencies and engaged with various groups including the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, neighborhood communities, wildlife advocacy organizations, the First Gentleman of Colorado, media and others to discuss DPR’s Goose Management Program."

This statement is very misleading when it comes to the involvement of the First Gentleman, Marlon Reis. First, there were four others accompanying Mr. Reis at the ZOOM meeting, including me (Professor emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at CU-Boulder, author, and former Guggenheim Fellow), conservation biologist Dr. Richard Reading, DU Law professor Justin Marceau, and the director of DU's Institute for Human-Animal Connection Philip Tedeschi. We specifically asked Mr. Gilmore to: (1) provide us with the details of the non-lethal trials to which he often refers, some of which may already have been published in peer-reviewed journals as is often the case and (2) put in writing that killing geese will not be an option for 2021 and beyond. To date, we have not received the data for the non-lethal trials nor any written commitment to stop the killing. Lets also be clear that his use of the word consulted does not mean others agree with him. So, it's possible that others also asked to see the data for the non-lethal trials and suggested using non-lethal methods that are being ignored. -- Marc Bekoff (author of Why Geese Matter and other essays about Denver's geese; homepage: marcbekoff.com)

I'll update this when I have a valid link to Gilmore's statement.
