CHANGE IS NEEDED

CHANGE IS NEEDED
The Issue
Every animal deserves a voice and a second chance at a good life. It is our job to give that to them. The Humane Society of Macomb is not that voice or the place for their second chance. This place is NOT humane. Animals are being underfed, neglected, living in unsanitary conditions, euthanized and given up on. Is this somewhere you would want to take an animal? No. When we as people find an animal that is lost or hurt we want to know we are taking them to the right place. A place where they will be properly cared for and feel safe. This Humane Society needs new ownership and a new staff, a fresh start. Please help me help these animals have a second chance at life. Shutting this place down wouldn't fix the problem, our community needs a home for animals and with the right people this can be it. We need to come together and rebuild this Humane Society. I am not asking you to do anything other than simply sign and be the voice for the animals who do not have one. Please, this may be just a stepping stone but I am willing to go miles to better an animals life.
Please if you are in the area join the protests every Saturday from 10AM-4PM
***This petition is in no way affiliated with the Michigan Humane Soceity, they do amazing things for animals and we all are so greatful!
Our mission is to implement change at the Humane Society of Macomb, including the following:
1. Reducing and hopefully eliminating euthanasia rates.
2. Implementing better conditions and care for surrendered animals and strays.
3. Facilitating working relationships with local rescues, foster programs, and sanctuaries to help place animals that may take longer to find homes.
4. Help to facilitate educational programs to teach the public about responsible pet ownership and the dangers of backyard breeders.
5. Revive public interest in the shelter and what it can offer the community.
6. Financial transparency and ensuring that donations are designated to only be used for the care of the animals, the promotion of educational programs within the community, and low cost spay/neuters for those who otherwise could not afford it.
7. Beginning a TNR program to trap, neuter/spa, and release stray/feral cats to decrease the overall population.
8. Establishing a better uniform, and more fair adoptive screening process (one that is not at someones whim and less restrictive).
9. Promote all avaliable animals to the public via social media, petfinder.com, and the shelter's facebook page.
We hope to pressure current management to change methods, polocies, and procedures that are in effect at the shelter via social media, local media, peaceful protest, and involvment of local animal control as well as the Michigan Agriculture & Rural Development. We want to encourage changes to be made to improve conditions beyond what the bare minimum requirements are by outdates laws. If changes are not made to correct current issues then we support removal of the current management, and the appointment of additional new board members from local government and other rescue organizations to ensure that the appropriate changes are made.
