This petition has achieved an astounding 533 signatures in it's first 4 days!
Thank you so much everyone. Just to keep you updated, here is where I am at:
I wrote to the HSA on 08/11/17:
"I believe the 'Humane Slaughter Association' should remove the word 'Humane' from it's title as there is no such thing as humane slaughter.
You are portraying yourselves with a paradoxical name and are perpetuating a lie that convinces people that killing can be done in a kind or non violent way which it cannot.
If the definition of humane can no longer legally apply to dairy farming according to the ASA, then surely it cannot apply to killing a healthy sentient being who wants to live?
Is this something you would be willing to change immediately?
Please be advised that I will be showing your response to others who support me".
I wrote an email to the ASA stating:
"I believe the name ‘Humane Slaughter Association’ is misleading for consumers. I have many supporters here: https://www.change.org/p/the-asa-humane-slaughter-association-remove-the-word-humane-from-your-title
I want the 'Humane Slaughter Association' to remove the word 'Humane' from their title as there is no such thing as humane slaughter. They are portraying themselves with a paradoxical name and are perpetuating a lie that convinces people that killing can be done in a kind or non violent way which it cannot. And then I submitted a formal complaint through their website.
The ASA replied:
"If you have reason to believe that the name ‘Humane Slaughter Association’ is misleading for consumers, the case may fall under our remit.
The complaint will be assessed fully by our Complaints team to determine whether there are grounds for further investigation. Once your complaint has been logged, a member of the Complaints team will be in touch".
On 09/11/17 the ASA responded to my formal website complaint:
"We will try to respond as soon as we can. Our aim is that one of our team will respond in more detail within ten working days from receipt of your enquiry".
11/11/17 - I have had no response from the HSA as yet.
