Imagine being told that your dreams have limits simply because you were born a girl.

For many Afghan women and girls, restrictions have severely limited access to education, employment, freedom of movement, and participation in public life.

Education is not a privilege. Work is not a privilege. Having a voice is not a privilege. These are human rights. 

We should not remain silent while women and girls are prevented from fully participating in the society they belong to.

A girl should be able to open a book without being told that learning is not for her.

A woman should be able to work without being told that her ambition makes her less worthy.

A woman should be able to speak, move, learn, and dream without having her identity used as a reason to silence her.

This is not simply a women’s issue. It is a human-rights issue.

We call on leaders, institutions, and the international community to stand with Afghan women and girls and support their right to education, work, safety, freedom, dignity, and participation in society.

Her rights are human rights. Her future matters. Her voice matters.
