Dear All, Day before yesterday I got a call from Joint Secretary office (Mr. Ali Rizvi – joint secretary medical admission) in Health ministry, but unfortunately I could not receive the call, as I was in meeting and my mobile was on silence. Later on yesterday I called him and he referred the call to under Secretary-Medical Admission (Mr. Amit Biswas). I had talked almost 14 minutes with him and following is the information, which he gave me. He told that they are aware that there is no NRI quota in govt. medical college, however same is provided in private medical colleges in India. He said two years back also they prepared the amendment bill and sent to selection committee, but due to some reason, there was no progress. But he promised that he will again draft the Amendment bill for the same and send for parliament approval. When I asked him that some of the state Govt. Medical colleges have NRI quota, why other state don’t have ?. He replied whichever the Govt. Medical colleges are offering NRI quota, they were all private medical college sometime before. When government took over the administration of those private colleges, then they kept the same NRI quota as before. Otherwise none of the Govt. Medical college is having any NRI quota. Its my gut feeling that this thing can happen, if we all untidily try for this. You can also send mail to them for requesting to start NRI quota in medical colleges. This might take some time, but its possible and we need to try for this. Please send mail to Health minister and their secretaries and also to minister of overseas Indian. Just for your information, I am sending almost every two weeks mail to PMO, Health Minister, Minister of Overseas Indian, Joint Secretary and also to MCI (Medical council of India). Beside writing to them I am also calling them and Tweeting them for this concern . Iam also seeking for an appointment to speak to Health minister or stae minister in health ministry.
