Paul McCartney: Release Beatles Reunion Song, Please

The Issue

Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr worked on three Beatles reunion songs in the mid-90's. The third one, "Now and Then" (sometimes called "Miss You" and "I Don't Want To Lose You") has never been released. All three Beatles added vocals and instruments to the original John Lennon home demo of the song, over several sessions. (Jeff Lynne produced.) George Harrison, stung by the negative reception to the first two reunion tracks, vetoed the release of "Now and Then." In the many years since, McCartney has said that he would like to finish and release the song. It is known for a fact that he and producer David Kahne did further work on "Miss You" in 2007. It seems probable that the song is finished, or nearly so. Paul: this is an extraordinarily difficult and stressful time for the world. There was a day when Beatles songs gave enormous hope, vitality, inspiration. (They are even credited with helping to topple the Soviet Union.) We who understand how heartening and special it was to hear "the new Beatles song," ask you to please give the world that experience one last time. Please release "Now and Then." Thank you.
