Undoubtedly, the death of George Floyd has widespread outraged not only to the US, but the world along with it. And as a result of this, protesters have been fighting for the justice for George and many other victims of police brutality for the sake that change be made, and also abolishing the monuments and statues that are all around supporting an outdated stance of society’s political standards. These do not correlate with our current climate nor will they in years to come.

Statues are being taken down by POC protesters and white protestors alike, not our government despite this being a reoccurring problem. We are in a position where POC are finally being heard and addressed, to an extent by people who are willing to make change.

However, of course with the rise of allies and anti-racist, inevitably they’ll be those who envision differently. A lot of very small minded people openly treasure the corrupt message that these statues behold without knowing the damage they’re actually causing. Protecting slave owners, racists, murders, and bigots, should not be on this country’s agenda, especially when the nation is already in full beam of racist headlights.

In no instance should a statue have more worth than a human life, regardless of colour. Even more so when these statues represent bringing the black man and POC down, dead, and locked up. A racist agenda should not be congratulated and protested under more rights than we get.

If those who believe these statues should be kept up actually did their research and reviewed the history behind their life instead of immediately standing alongside glamourised criminals, without a doubt their opinion would be shifted. Racist history should not be treasured for the sake of it being history. 

The goal is to enlist all the crimes and known offences on a plaque next to or on the statue, evident enough for those who choose to read it to see. Every statue that our government keeps subsiding to get rid of will instead be kept but kept in all its prejudice glory, so they can really be acknowledged for their ‘hard work’.
