HRC Resolution for International Fact-Finding Mission in Xinjiang

HRC Resolution for International Fact-Finding Mission in Xinjiang
The Issue
For much too long, Uyghurs have been subject to severe repression and a magnitude of abuses by the Chinese officials. The continual deterioration of human rights in Xinjiang, China, is a long-standing concern that should not be only met with sanctions and statements condemning the actions of the government. No country should be able to detain a million members of its own population. Thus, the crisis in Xinjiang demands uncompromising scrutiny from the United Nations Human Rights Council. Xinjiang Genocide Watch believes the HRC should adopt a resolution establishing an international fact-finding mission to investigate the vicious crimes against the Uyghur in Xinjiang.
Such a resolution would encourage the High Commissioner of the HRC to send a fact-finding mission to conduct an assessment of the situation in Xinjiang and report to the council. Additionally, the proposal should consider China’s willingness to grant access to international personnel, and emphasize such access be independent, without restriction, and unsupervised. China also should be reminded of its responsibilities as a part of the HRC to protect human rights and comply with the council. Frankly, a resolution mandating a fact-finding mission is the bare minimum for the HRC considering its obligation to promote human rights seriously. So, in order for this to be done, sign the petition below to push for this.
