The New York Cosmos are the last remaining professional sports franchise on Long Island and we are about to lose them too, like we just lost the Islanders!

The legendary NY Cosmos, who have had some of the greatest soccer players in the world play for them, most notably Pele, and most recently Raul made a proposal three years ago to build a gorgeous soccer stadium at Belmont Park with a hotel and restaurants that will provide hundreds of local jobs, but will also place an international soccer stadium within a reasonable driving distance of Long Island.

The RFP that the Cosmos replied to has been just sitting there for 3 years and the Empire State Development Agency has delayed and delayed and has not given the Cosmos the go ahead to break ground.  This delay, may cost us to lose the Cosmos, which are the ONLY Championship caliber professional team in the New York Metro area (they have won 2 NASL Championships in 3 years), because they may leave to a place where they can build a stadium!
