Extend Howard University's Fall Semester Bill Due Date

Extend Howard University's Fall Semester Bill Due Date
The Issue
As we approach the commencement of the 2019-2020 academic year, fall semester bills must soon be paid-in-full. In spite of this, Howard University's ongoing financial crisis inhibits a large portion of its student body from being able to fulfill the obligation.
A number of students have not yet been awarded all of their aid for the academic year. Countless other students were just notified on July 15th, 2019 of the cancellation of their scholarships without the option to appeal, regardless of extenuating circumstances - a new policy the university has adopted this year. Many of these students unjustly having their scholarships removed. Due to the implementation of a new call center at the university, the Office of Financial Aid and other essential departments cannot be reached by phone until August 1st, 2019. In the event that students fail to pay their bills or arrange a payment plan by July 21st, 2019, they will receive late penalties and have holds placed on their accounts.
Given these circumstances, we are requesting that students be given one (1) additional month to either rectify their award packages or find additional funding for their education. Bills would then be due on August 21st, 2019. Without this additional time, the financial crisis will essentially become a purging of the student body as a large portion of students will not be able to return in the fall, some unable to continue their education at all.
