Renounce, and remove the performance from the contestant Ray Jessel insulting transgender people, and at least apologize.

The Issue

On the television show which aired on National Broadcasting Company, “America's Got Talent,” show date of the first of July, 2014, a truly appalling occurrence not only took place, but was paraded, and approved of. A man by the name of Ray Jessel came on stage and charmed the audience by singing about how wrong it is to be transgender; and is in fact ridicule worthy. This, in the face of the support that NBC has given to the LGBT community in general through monetary support of various and assorted events. If this was not just lip service, I for one would think that this would have been rejected, not broadcast, and called out for the abhorrent transphobia and support of the hate that all LGBT people face every day around the world.

We the undersigned ask that they do one of two things as a show and a television network. One option is to remove the video, provide an on-air apology to the transgender men, women, and children that they allowed to be told are less than human, and only good for the brunt of a joke; and not have Mr. Jessel on the show again. The other option would be to stop the lip service, and admit that human rights and dignity are nothing when enough money can be brought in.
