The Anna Kennedy Autism Hero Awards took place on Saturday 11th June 2022 at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London.
We were so proud to be supporting one of our bereaved mums who fights tirelessly every day to help others.
Well done Julia …seen here receiving her OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY AWARD from David Grant MBE.
Julia, is a mum of three children with autism. Sadly in 2020, her son Chris took his life, aged 19.
Whilst some parents would understandably crumble in this situation, Julia has fought tooth and nail to get help for her other two children. She has worked tirelessly and goes above and beyond to support other families in the Essex area and beyond.
Julia set up SEND THE RIGHT MESSAGE CHARITY with her friend and they now support over 700 SEND Families around the Southend area.
Julia is an amazing woman and continues to surprise people with her dedication to helping others.
Her Boxing Day last year was spent in her local police station assisting a family fighting for an assessment for their 15 year old son with autism. Julia raised £700 to privately fund the assessment and get him the help he desperately needed.
#matthewscampaign thanks Julia for all her hard work and dedication.
Julia’s son Chris died in the community and is just one of many community deaths not even being considered by the governments current non-statutory inquiry.
Please help us change this by signing and sharing our petition.
Thankyou
19 year old Chris Nota from Southend took his own life in July 2020. He was an outpatient of EPUTnhs. His mum Julia Hopper says he was failed.
“Please don’t ever let this happen again. I am begging the government to call a statutory public inquiry into Essex Mental Health Services now. This cull on the most vulnerable in our society must end.”
- Julia Hopper, Chris Nota's mother
