The Issue

We, the undersigned, demand a full and immediate investigation into the wrongful convictions of Deonta David and Dmante Dontrell Anderson whom of which are two innocent Muslim men from DeKalb County, Georgia, whose cases expose a justice system corrupted by judicial bias, prosecutorial misconduct, and deliberate indifference.

THE CASES

GA v. DEONTA DAVID, #21-CR 2124 — Life + 85 Years for a Crime He Didn't Commit

Deonta David, was convicted on August 1, 2024, and sentenced to life imprisonment plus 85 consecutive years for a 2020 fatal shooting he did not commit.

The Evidence of Injustice:

· 11‑Member Jury: Deonta was convicted by an 11‑member jury which is a structural defect that requires automatic reversal under Georgia law (Sinkfield v. State, 311 Ga. 524 (2021)).
· Religious Discrimination: On July 26, 2024, Judge Stacey Hydrick hit the gavel, dismissed the court reporter, and then denied Deonta's request for 2‑5 minutes to offer Islamic prayer (two rakahs). She said: "We don't have time for that!" Assistant District Attorney Helen Pott added: "I don't think anyone in the United States has time for that!" Because the court reporter was sent home, NO TRANSCRIPT EXISTS of this exchange.
· Judicial Bias: Judge Hydrick posted on Facebook that there are "no innocent civilians in Gaza" and that Gazans were "celebrating and gloating over their brutal murder of Jews." CAIR‑Georgia condemned her remarks as demonstrating "a clear bias against Palestinians and Muslims" and violating Canon 2 (Impartiality) of the Georgia Code of Judicial Conduct. She resigned from the Judicial Qualifications Commission while under investigation.

· Brady/Giglio Violations: ADA Helen Pott withheld the felony record of its key witness which was evidence that would have destroyed his credibility.
· Prosecutorial Misconduct: ADA Pott introduced State's Exhibit 54 at trial without prior disclosure, without a proper chain of custody, and the exhibit was allegedly tampered with. Lead Detective JB Williams committed perjury to conceal it.

· Ongoing Danger: Deonta is now being targeted by gang members attempting to murder him, because he is Muslim in a prison system the U.S. Department of Justice found to be deliberately indifferent to violence.

GA v. DMANTE ANDERSON, #19-CR 2976 — 70 Years for a Domestic Incident

Dmante Dontrell Anderson, was sentenced to 70 years in prison (63 to serve) for allegedly shooting his recently divorced wife in the face. On the other side of the coin, she unequivocally attest to accidentally shooting herself in the face well before he was indicted August 27 of 2019. DeKalb County DA Sherry Boston celebrated the conviction, stating: "We will not be deterred."

The Evidence of Injustice:

· Prosecutorial Misconduct: ADA Joanna Steiner Helsby intentionally provoked a mistrial on February 9, 2022, by placing witness Melissa D. Jordan on the stand to testify that Anderson was "a menace to society"  which was a testimony Judge Courtney L. Johnson found she gave "on purpose." Ms. Jordan actually attest to ADA Helsby telling her to state that he was in fact a “menace to society.” Judge Johnson stated: "I think you did this on purpose."
· Infiltration of Defense Counsel: The State placed NAACP President Gerald A. Griggs on Anderson's case as defense counsel clearly knowing Griggs would aid the prosecution in securing a conviction. Griggs withdrew immediately after Anderson's conviction.
· False Testimony: ADA Joanna Steiner Helsby knowingly presented false and misleading testimony, fabricated evidence, and targeted Anderson based on his status as an ex‑felon, which was a clear case of selective prosecution in violation of equal protection.

THE PATTERN

Two Muslim brothers who were forced to represent themselves. One system. Same broken machine.

Both cases involve:

· Prosecutorial misconduct
· Judicial bias
· No accountability held on prosecutors and judges

OUR DEMANDS

We, the undersigned, demand that:

1. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles immediately review and grant relief to Dmante Anderson and Deonta David
2. The Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission (PAQC) investigate ADA Helen Virginia Peters Pott, District Attorney Sherry Boston, and ADA Joanna Steiner Helsby for prosecutorial misconduct, Brady/Giglio violations, and violations of the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct.
3. The Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) investigate the conduct of Judge Stacey Hydrick, and Judge Courtney Johnson for judicial bias, religious discrimination and violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct.
4. The Georgia Legislature fund and mandate Conviction Integrity Units in every Georgia county to identify and correct wrongful convictions.
5. The DeKalb County District Attorney's Office release all exculpatory evidence and cooperate fully with any investigation into these cases.

WHY THIS MATTERS

"The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened."
— President John F. Kennedy

Deonta David and Dmante Anderson are innocent men serving life sentences for crimes they did not commit. Their cases are not isolated incidents. They are symptoms of a system that has lost its way.

If this can happen to them, it can happen to anyone!

We need your voice.

Together, we can demand accountability and fight for the release of these two innocent men.
