The Issue

On a fateful day, our beloved Steven James MacKrell—a devoted father to Skylar MacKrell, son to Astrid and Donald MacKrell, and brother to Mike and Kevin MacKrell—tragically lost his life in an accident at Peninsula Corporate Circle. His vehicle went into a pond, and the accident went unnoticed for over a decade. For ten years, our family lived in the agonizing unknown, only to have our worst fears confirmed.

Steven's accident occurred at night. We believe he was unable to see the hidden danger of the pond because the property owners failed to provide any guardrails, barriers, adequate lighting, or "Water Ahead" warning signs. He accidentally drove into the water because of this negligence. His death was not just a tragedy; it was the direct result of a known hazard that the property owners have ignored for years.

This is not just a personal tragedy; it is a public safety failure. This is not an isolated incident; multiple vehicles have fallen into this same pond, yet no corrective action has been taken.

Florida leads the entire nation in vehicle-submersion deaths. This is a constant and known danger in our community. According to a report from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner, in 2015 alone, there were 10 deaths from motor vehicle crashes in canals. This is not a risk we have to accept.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, installing guardrails can reduce fatal and severe injuries in roadway departures by 45-50%. A guardrail is a simple, proven, and low-cost solution designed for one purpose: to keep a vehicle on the road and save a life. Steven's life could have been saved.

We stand united to ensure that no more families endure the pain and heartache that we, the MacKrell family, have suffered.

We call upon the owners of Peninsula Corporate Circle to immediately install guardrails, proper lighting, and prominent warning signs around the pond.

We also earnestly request the support of the Boca Raton City Council. We ask you to use your influence to urge the property owners to fix this hazardous situation immediately. Your involvement is critical to ensure these necessary safety changes are made and to prevent further loss of life.

Steven's memory must be a catalyst for change. His tragic accident highlights the urgent need for safety standards that protect our community. We appeal to you for your support in this life-saving action.

Please join us by signing this petition. Together, we can demand accountability and promote a safer community for all.
