Open NRG roof for Houston Texans Home Games

The Issue

Problem
The Houston Texans do NOT open the roof at NRG during home games. Not once since 2014. The Texans paid to have a retractable roof when the franchise began playing football in NRG in 2002. Even though the Rodeo organization had no interest in a retractable roof, the decision was made to build it for the football team so that we could experience both open air authentic football as well as the convenience of HVAC on our many non-ideal weather days. I have been a season ticket holder since the beginning, and many fans enjoy the openness during the great Fall weather. It is a completely different atmosphere. The Texans have a 50-80 degree clear weather roof policy that was never truly adhered to and completely disregarded since Bill O’Brien has been the head coach. The general belief being that keeping it closed creates home field advantage with fan noise. Also, fans have complained in the past about being in the sun (the infamous Steelers game in 2005, but that was the home opener in September.) I agree no one wants a sunburn in intense heat at the first game, but why is it that teams in Florida and areas with much cold weather who have open air stadiums don't complain? Because they love it. True Football Fans love a real experience. Do you think the sun is less intense in Denver??? Come on Texans let's be a real football team and have a true football atmosphere! McNair was a part of the Open Roof decision when they built NRG. Let’s get it open once this year in his memory.

Solution
The Houston Texans franchise needs to develop a clear policy for Opening the NRG roof , and then adhere to it. Even revamping the old policy to allow for a timeframe for just mid-October through November (I might even concede to 0% chance of rain and 55-75 degrees) , or just promise fans 2, 3 or 4 open air games. Anything! Pretending we do not have a roof policy or a even a roof for that matter is no solution. Make a statement and answer to your fans.

Personal story
I have been a season ticket holder since day 1 and like many fans, I miss the open-air atmosphere during nice weather days. The design of NRG was part of my decision to become a season ticket holder. I keep up my end of the deal every year financially for the franchise and I feel let down that the franchise has not kept their promise to the fans.
