Housing Services need to change how they work out rent subsidy
Housing Services need to change how they work out rent subsidy
The issue
With the cost of living being so high at the moment the Government and Department of Housing (all housing services) need to change how they work out the percentage of rent tenants pay.
The percentages they use can be up to 30%.
Currently if you work, they use your gross income not your net, this is wrong as it's not your gross income you receive into your bank account to pay your rent and bills, it should be the net amount.
Also, if you are on Centrelink I discovered looking at what they worked out is my daughters amount to pay, they work it out on everything she gets including child support which shouldn't be included as this is to help raise her children.
So, currently the percentage and what payment my daughter receives is:
Energy Supplement x 28.75187% (this shouldn't be included; this is to help with electricity bill)
Family Tax Benefit A x 15% (don't think this should be included)
Family Tax Benefit B x 15% (don't think this should be included)
Maintenance/Child Support x 28.75187% (seriously shouldn't be included this is to help with cost of raising a child)
Rent Assistance 100% far enough
When she was getting Parenting Allowance x 28.75187% (why such a high percentage, when I was on this payment years ago it was I believe only 25%)
People are having to choose what to pay and trying to put food on the table for their kids.
Now she works its x 28.75187%.
With everything my daughter needs to pay she hardly gets by as she pays for before and after school care for 1 child and long day care for the other and next year it will be before and after school care for both, and trying to get hold of someone to re assess the fees for this is almost impossible.
I also believe that all housing properties should have solar and smart meters as it saves so much money and you are able to see where you bill is.
