Support Housing First Policies! Repeal United States, Anti-Homeless Legislature!

The Issue

Please share to providers, doctors, friends, houseless individuals! Housing First has been scientifically proven to provide housing, saving lives and tax dollars simultaneously. It's literally 3X cheaper to care, and provide people with a house. Why? Many reasons, here's just a few.

1. Less interaction from First Responders, ER visits, etc. Also, due to housing and wrap services, less spending on hospitalizations, and terminal illness due to earlier detection of cancer, heart disease etc.

2. Less spending from city, county, and states in waste management, infrastructure repair, violent crimes. Remove desperation and trauma from people's lives by prescribing housing, which in turn keeps people from turning to desperation and crime to meet their needs.

3. Giving people housing, no barrier housing, AND low barrier housing, transitional and permanent supportive housing, open to anyone, with wrap services, on site, improves reliability of people's connection to services, with no requirement for sobriety, in case studies this has improved successful housing of ALL participants to 98% 2+ years continuous housing; and the same statistics show 98% of participants also voluntarily became involved in sobriety services and maintained sobriety for 2+ years also!

These incredible statistics are validated, some varied programs have had less success, but still at twice the success rates of current programs versus Housing First!

I urge you to please share this, forward it, to every hero, every politician, every doctor, and ask, why are we not taking the more compassionate route of giving people dignity, when it's 3X more expensive to make humans sleep in shelters, in conditions worse than prisoners or stray cats and dogs (we love them too), pair up saved animals with ex-houseless folks and solve 2X the issues in life.

We get so much more accomplished in life when we act towards others like we want others to act towards us. Be the Change. Love thy neighbor, it's cheaper to care. Thanks especially to Providers and First Responders for your support, Doctors, and MH specialist as well.

I was once homeless, and had there been programs in place such as these, my time spent being homeless would have been much shorter and I wouldn't feel 60 on the inside.

Fact, spending 1 year living outside can shorten the average lifespan by 10-20 years by advanced aging of people's internal organs via stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.... go ahead look it up!

Anyone in life could be a day away from homelessness, a fire, a death in the family, any number of reasons can make you homeless. Some people have been homeless 10-20 years and some never lived inside at all. I know you may think that hard to believe, but I've seen it myself. Some folks need that transitional living to adjust to indoors, learn to live indoors, to take time to process all that they've been through, and feel human again. This is why there are several solutions to homelessness, because people don't fit into cookie cutter programs. Solutions like Housing First,  provide support and structure, allow for mistakes depending on severity, but most importantly it's gives people back their DIGNITY and HUMANITY by simply giving someone stability, a shower and some sleep, and safety. Then they can address their individual needs with a clearer head, leading to better outcomes!

Chester BellPetition StarterI myself became homeless years ago, and it took me several years to climb my way out of it. After learning about Housing First, going to Seattle, WA to see how it works first hand, I can't help but ask why we all aren't using it?
