Dear supporters,
Thank you for your support for the petition and sharing your thoughts so far, which have helped to keep the momentum of our nature conservation movement going.
I realise the BBHP area petition is like a marathon, and we are probably only at the beginning of a long journey of working towards a larger goal of advocating the conservation of our few remaining secondary forests.
This is because it may take months or years or even decades to challenge and dismantle the colonialist, capitalistic mindset that has invaded Singapore for over two centuries.
As some of you may already know, the bulldozers have moved into part of the forested area to prepare for the construction of BTO flats. I have alerted the authorities to inform the contractor/developer to not remove the mature trees with wide girths, including the fig tree shown in the attached photo, as recommended in the Environmental Impact Studies report.
Meanwhile, here's sharing with you an excerpt of the interview I had with Lianhe Zaobao in their special feature article on nature conservation dated 21 March 2021, in which I mentioned about the petition.
Let's keep on keeping on for the sake of our biodiversity and for ourselves and our future generations.
Regards,
Jimmy
