Whereas… 

• All current statutory holidays in Canada only represent the history, practices, and religious beliefs of the colonizers of this land. Namely: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Canada Day, Labour Day, and Christmas Day.
• The 80th recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 2015 report calls “upon the federal government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, to establish, as a statutory holiday, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.” 

We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to Establish, as a statutory holiday, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on June 21st.
