Kath Scott started this petition to House of Commons

With Lockdown restrictions due to commence in 4 days time (Thursday 5th November) it seems likely that all organised youth & children's sports will be stopped for at least 4 weeks.

This petition calls on MPs to ensure that lockdown legislation (to be debated and voted on this Wednesday in the House of Commons) allows organised outdoor youth & children's sports to continue. This is on the basis that:

1. It is widely accepted that transmission of Covid19 occurs predominantly in indoor settings. Therefore preventing outdoor sports will have limited, if any, impact on infection rates.

2. Allowing sports to continue will have a clear positive impact on children's physical and mental health at a time when lockdown related restrictions would likely lead to worsening physical and, in particular, mental health.

3. If - as reported - schools remain fully open, the risk of transmission/infection in classroom settings is clearly already present and far higher than any risk presented by the continuation of outdoor sports.

4. The risk of transmission can be further mitigated by having appropriate measures in place at venues - e.g.: no shared travel to venues; limitations on numbers of adults present; wearing of masks at venues etc.

At what is a difficult time for us a nation, it is important that decisions taken to safeguard the well-being of all of us are made in a considered and fair way. Please support this petition to ensure our children are not unduly penalised by having their sports taken away.
