97% of Americans oppose cruelty to animals. This legislation would prohibit a state's right to legislate on the production conditions of farmed animal products sold within its borders. This would reverse landmark achievements of the democratic process, state sovereignty and the will of the American people to determine what eating ethically and safely means. It will, on a federal level, assure the tortorous conditions (gestation crates, battery cages, force feeding, etc..) lived in by billions of farm animals for many years to come.
