We need to put a stop to professionals in medical settings using CODA’s (Children of Deaf Adults) and also family members to interpret medical appointments. It needs to be recognised by ALL professionals that qualified BSL (British Sign Language) interpreters need to be booked for such appointments. 

Over the years this has happened far to many times and enough is enough. CODAs/family members - having to break such news and interpret to a family member, for example; they have a terminal illness, complications to their health or sudden death... leaves a lasting impact to their mental health and being disregarded as a family member themselves.

It is of utmost importance that a qualified BSL interpreter is booked for these medical settings, because incorrect information can be interpreted to the deaf person and CODAs/family members may not always understand the terminology that medical settings use.
