I'm begging the government to stop allowing private hospitals to refuse to treat mentally ill people simply because they are accused of being 'difficult'. Private hospitals have the right to pick and choose which patients they would like to treat and they are allowed to kick people out on to the street for behaviours like self-harm or when a patient threatens to call the ombudsman they kick you out. They only admit the easiest patients with the least issues so they can have less staff and make more money. They get can get over $2000 a night per patient.

I am desperately trying to get treatment and i keep getting refused and get told that I am 'too complex' according to Dr Terrance Teh (director of the Brisbane borderline & complex trauma clinic) who specializes in the illnesses I suffer from which he advertises on the Belmont website. No doctor wants to take me or many people I know on. it's not fair I pay $2500 per year to have private cover which saves taxpayers a lot of money but they won't accept me, my GP rang 4 private mental health hospitals begging them to admit me saying that "I am worried that this patient will be dead soon he needs maintenance electroconvulsive therapy". The public hospitals don't generally do maintenance ECT as it is too expensive and you need an aneasthetic and they can only help you in the here and now if your suicidal but not with your daily/long term issues. I feel like I just can't keep going on like this it's too hard I am really close to just giving up. The private system is my only hope! even the doctors at the public hospital tell me that the only place that can help is the private hospital. I have been kicked out onto the street for self-harming at a private hospital and as a consequence, none of them will admit me yet they advertise that they treat all the issues i have.

I am 22 years old and have Autism spectrum disorder, Major Depression and Bipolar disorder, I have seen many different psychiatrists which are expensive ($480 first visit) because I'm on the DSP.

I have been in and out of psychiatric hospitals all my life for suicide attempts and the public hospital's cant help in the long term. They don't have psychologists etc they can only stop you from IMMEDIATE harm whereas private hospitals treat you on a long term basis with psychology and outpatient follow up appointments with the same psychiatrist and also offer many more therapy options like hydrotherapy, Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), Art therapy, Exercise therapy, compulsory group therapy sessions with a psychologist 9am to 3pm every day, individual psychology and so on. Please stop them from being allowed to refuse treatment so we can get the help that we need. Come on government this is Australia lets not be like America
