The horse owner should Not be the only one to decide what happens to the injured horse. It should be also up to the vet whether the horse may be medicated and rescued or put down.

The Issue
Unfortunately, when a horse is injured on our roads, more often than not, it is left for hours injured and in extreme pain, and is then sent to the Biccerija , even though the horse will be in trauma and in tremendous pain.
An injured horse may have a good chance of living, so we are asking the Commissioner for Animal Rights to do all in his power, so when a horse is injured on our roads in Malta or Gozo, the horse owner should Not be the only one to decide what happens to the horse. It is also up to the vet to decide whether the horse may be saved by being medicated and rescued if there is a good chance of the horse being saved....only if there is no chance of saving the horse's life, is he put down.....and this is to be done humanely by a qualified vet.
As we go along we are recieving more suggestions and also complaints that we have not mentioned all the points in our petition.....so we are going to add them and include them in our pleas to save horses from more injustices and pain.
Our petition call is one...that horses be protected as much as possible from abuse, pain and neglect. If it were for many of us they shall not be used any more on our roads, but this will take a more time and a more united front.
At this stage , we are demanding that the life of each horse be top priority when it is injured on our roads and any medical intervention necessary should be provided to save its life.
This obviously means that medical facilities, professional human recources and medical equipment should be available in our country for this purpose.
