Renee James, 49, of Conway, has been cited under Horry County Ordinance 4-3 for failure to provide proper care and treatment for animals. She was given a fine of $445, according to Horry County police.

More than 146 dogs of different breeds and ages were seized from a property that she owns off Highway 65 in Conway on Wednesday because of the conditions in which the dogs were being kept.

They were cramped in cages that had not been cleaned in a long time.

She surrendered the dogs to Horry county animal care but now has petitioned the court to stop all medical efforts by HCACC and have them returned to her. The dogs were up for adoption but the adoptions were put on hold pending a hearing.

Her petition is an outrage and a potential death sentence for these dogs. We must petition the Horry County magistrate to deny her petition and to shut down the puppy mill permanently.
