Allow Backyard Chickens With No $200 Fee

This petition had 313 supporters

The Horry county council wants to introduce an ordinance and charge residence a $200 fee to keep chickens in residential areas.

Currently there is NO law prohibiting the ownership of chickens unless you are within a city that does NOT allow this or an HOA that does not allow this and provided you can provide adequate care and living area for the animals (same goes for any pet)

The County council is wasting taxpayers money with non-existent zoning issues, keeping chickens as pets is exactly the same as keeping a cat, dog, bunny or PARROT (this is a bird just like a chicken).

This is not an agricultural issue as it's on the same level as having a vegetable garden at home, we don't tell people that grow vegetables in their backyard that they are farming, we don't say there is a zoning issue and we DON'T try to charge them any amount of money to do so.

The Noise is NOT an issue, if you have been around chickens you will know they do make some noise but it’s no worse than dogs, they sleep at night and are quiet during this time!

If kept clean they do not smell and or attract pests! (This is true for all pets)

This is a free country, let’s keep it that way!
