Expand thornleigh/brickpit skatepark to prevent overcrowding
The issue
It is important because the brickpit skatepark is very busy and is not able to accomodate the amount of skaters, bike riders, and scooters that attend the park, especially on weekends.
When the Park becomes overcrowded, collisions become more likely, resulting in more injuries, also on weekends, many younger children attend the park (under 10 years of age) and are less aware of other riders, many times resulting in people having to stop suddenely to avoid collision.
Many of the younger children are not skilled enough to use the ramps, and as a result, ride along on the flat parks of the park and inside the bottom of the bowl, meaning they do not go with the flow of the park, but across it.
If the skatepark were to be expanded, many skaters have thought of a "street" section. This would be a relatively low and flat section between the skatepark and the sports staduim. A street section would consist of rails in varying heights and multiple ledges, with maybe a stair set as well. As it would not have many ramps, and as the ramps would not need to be tall, it would be much cheaper to build than Quater and Half-Pipes.
Another possible expansion would be a learning area nearby, for begginners and younger riders so that they may aquire the skill to use the existing park more effectively, and hopefully minimise collisions and injuries.
Though more expensive, another option would be to add more ramps in the manner of the existing section.
Any expansion would result in less over crowding, less collisions, and hopefully, less injuries.
