Certain seniors have been told to change their senior quote because it includes their sexual orientation, Guidelines under which a student may choose their senior yearbook quote are that it is not offensive and does not contain hate speech of any sort, and that it must be inspiring. On page 23 of the student handbook for Hopkinsville high school, there's a policy that clearly states that students will not be discriminated for numerous reasons including their sexual orientation. That students, no matter who they are, what they might believe, where they're from, or who they love have equal right to an education. And the yearbook quote is an important part of that for many because it is symbolic of the struggles they have gone through to get to this point. It should not be rejected due to personal opinion of the staff or the board. If something is not offensive, it should not be rejected because it that is limiting the experience that the student has earned throughout their years of high school and school before that.
