End Pepsi's exclusivity contract with Johns Hopkins University

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Universities should not be making exclusive contracts with Big Soda companies! Johns Hopkins University has a contract with PepsiCo that expires THIS JUNE 2019, and we are a group of students who are trying to prevent its renewal.

Big Soda companies like PepsiCo and Coca-Cola have continuously undermined public health, relied on unfairly compensated labor, and violated human rights for the decades that they have been in operation.

Some of PepsiCo’s History:

  • Knowingly sources palm oil from suppliers with documented child labor, worker exploitation on their plantations
  • Has fired workers who were attempting to form unions
  • Targets marketing on low-income communities of color
  • Makes “donations” to Hopkins for exclusive sales and marketing to students and community members

As a leading public health and medical institution, Hopkins shouldn't be supporting a company with this history, nor should they give exclusive selling and marketing rights to them. By signing this petition, you will move us one step closer to changing the presence of pouring rights at Hopkins!

These are our demands:

  1. Change the exclusivity ratio from 80/20 to 60/40.
  2. Increased transparency on where PepsiCo's donated money goes and how it's used.
  3. Switch PepsiCo donated beverages from individual servings to bulk sized bottles to reduce plastic use.
  4. Eliminate single-use water bottles from cafes on campus.
