#HOPE4SA Demand Apology for Offense at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

Created July 29, 2024

The Issue

ARE YOU AGAINST THE MOCKERY OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST?!

As a faithful Christian party known as #Hope4SA, we were deeply offended by the blasphemy committed against our faith during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. This incident has disturbed us, as it rides on the larger wave of increasing mockery of Christianity around the world. In some areas, the consequences are devastating, as followers are physically harmed, and even killed for their beliefs. This personal pain underscores the severity of the issue: The attack on our faith is not just distasteful humor, but a part of a dangerous trend that needs immediate attention.

According to Pew Research Center, Christians remain one of the most persecuted religious groups globally, with incidents of violence and intimidation reported in numerous countries. It is against this backdrop that we ask the French government for an official apology for the incident at the Olympics opening ceremony.

Furthermore, we are requesting a sit-down discussion with the French ambassador to South Africa. In this meeting, we wish to unfold our concerns and grievances, and discuss potential ways forward - ways that respect  Christianity. We believe that through dialogue we can build understanding and avoid such offensive incidents in the future.

In a world that prizes freedom of religion, we believe this petition is an essential step towards respect and tolerance for all. We ask for your support. Stand with us. Sign this petition.
