This petition requests that Hood County Commissioners, the Sheriff department, and Animal Control explore every means possible to construct a new animal services facility. The existing building was built in 1998 with 1500 square feet and 12 kennels.

Hood County has grown 50 percent in the last twenty years which means that the County has vastly outgrown the existing facility. Sometimes there are up to 50 to 60 animals plus puppies and kittens housed in the cramped structure. There is a need to look at current as well as future needs with a facility designed with expansion in mind. A proposed building would be 10,000 square feet with 125 kennels. Quarantine space would be included to assess the health of incoming animals as well as special ventilation systems to prevent the spread of diseases.

Animal Advocates have been working to improve the plight of unwanted animals in Hood County. Your help in implementing this change is needed. HALO (Hood County Animal Lovers Organization), Friends for Animals, and BARC (Brazos Animal Resource Connection) fully support the building of the new animal facility.
