Canada Caring Society started this petition to Honourable Ahmed Hussen (Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada)

This petition is to ask Canada's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, to allow Hassan Al Kontar to come to Canada.

Hassan is a Syrian refugee who has been stuck in the arrivals terminal at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia since March 7, 2018.

Hassan cannot leave the terminal because he is not permitted to enter Malaysia and he cannot fly out of the airport because - as a Syrian refugee - he cannot get a visa to enter any another country.

A group of Canadian volunteers became aware of Hassan's terrible situation and raised over $17,000 to sponsor Hassan to come to Canada as a refugee.

A sponsorship application has been submitted to the Canadian government, but it takes 26 months to process a sponsorship application from Malaysia.

Hassan has already spent nearly 3 months in the Kuala Lumpur Airport. His mental and physical health is deteriorating.

With this petition, we request that Ahmed Hussen, the Canadian Minister of Immigration, asks his department to look into this situation and expedite the processing of Hassan's application to come to Canada.

You can follow Hassan on Twitter @kontar81 and share his daily struggle to live in an empty airport terminal.

Here is just one of the many media stories about his situation:
