Citizens for the Future of Ft. Negley Park
Sep 6, 2017
Friends & members of the resistance to paving over our parkland: For the first time next Tue Sept 12 at 12 NOON the Parks Board will hear an ACTUAL park option for our Historically-Protected-Parkland!!! This is consistent with the master plans adopted in 2006 & 2016 which our local councilman, Colby Sledge, ignored in ushering in the idea of using our parkland for MORE APARTMENTS! We all agree that housing is needed, but we in District 17 actually have an answer for that - we are TRIPLING the density of Edgehill Homes (also in District 17) with MDHA-led affordable & workforce housing. NOT housing operated for 99 years by a private developer. If private development is needed, drive down 8th and 12th avenue, in our district, the new apartments and townhouses are coming on at a break-neck pace. No private development on our public parkland! Come and show your support! Centennial Park Boardroom, 2565 Park Plaza. 2. Thursday, September 14 from 6 - 9 pm the Friends of Fort Negley will host the 3rd annual Taste of Wedgewood-Houston fundraiser at Houston Station benefitting Fort Negley Park. Tickets can be purchased online, here. See flyer below for more details and a list of participating vendors. You can read more about the history of this site, in the OpEd by Dr. Learotha Williams, an associate professor of African American and public history at Tennessee State University. Link below. This isn't over - even an army of public relations professionals can't spin this - the NAACP, EJI & National Civil War Historic Trust are all on our side. We are the volunteer state - let's harness our volunteer spirit to beat the paid PR mercenaries coming here to pave over our parkland! Yours in the fight, Alice Rolli District 17 Read more on twitter with hastag #RestoreTrustInMetroGvt
