Citizens for the Future of Ft. Negley Park
28 Aug 2017
Friends and supporters of Nashville Parks: Working together we are shining a light & lifting the fog of secrecy and the speed of backroom deals that have plagued the process of restoring St. Cloud Hill and Ft. Negley Park. That hurried process resulted in the Mayor's office trying to hand over our city's very first park to a private developer. No contract has been issued, this plan hasn't been approved by the City Council, the State Historic Commission has not yet weighed in - this park land STILL belongs to the Parks Board and the citizens of Nashville - let's keep it that way! Here are some ways you can help: 1. Tuesday Sept. 12, @NOON: attend the Parks Board Meeting @ Centennial Park Boardroom, 2565 Park Plaza, 37203. At the meeting a Parks-only option will be shown to the Parks Board - an option that was never before allowed by this rushed process. Let the Parks Board, appointed by the Mayor, know that we believe park land should be park land - not more apartment buildings! Vanderbilt alone owns 12 acres on Chestnut Street - right across from Ft. Negley. If more apartments are needed (in addition to the tripling of affordable housing that is taking place now in Edgehill with Envision Edgehill) let's put more apartments and retail on private land - not on city-owned parkland! 2. Learn more & stay involved Comprehensive Resource of letters, timelines, and the plan for a park-only solution is here: https://savenashvilleparks.org/ Recent Channel 4 Story: http://www.wsmv.com/story/36213327/meeting-planned-to-discuss-greer-stadium-redevelopment Link to my Op-Ed in the Tennessean: http://www.tennessean.com/story/opinion/2017/08/25/fort-negley-saving-place-exhale/603200001/ 3. Share this petition and encourage others to sign. Most importantly, don't give up! My great-grandfather saved Radnor Lake, and for his efforts the highest point is named Ganier Ridge. These fights aren't solved in a day or a week - it will take many months of sustained efforts - but we can set this right for our own great-grandchildren. Alice Ganier Rolli District 17 Resident
