Citizens for the Future of Ft. Negley Park
Sep 8, 2017
Friends & fellow Nashvillians who are confused how we are GIVING our parkland away to build 300 apartment units:
Wow! Celebrated NY Times best selling author Robert Hicks has joined our movement to protect this hallowed parkland. Read & share Joey Garrison's article in the Tennessean, linked below.
Double Wow! Yes, our city is expensive - yes it is MUCH more expensive than it was in 1915 when my grandfather was born on the street I live on today (Villa Place). We are a very short walk from Ft. Negley. Living here, I'm confused that our city Councilman, Colby Sledge, gives affordable housing needs as his main reason that we are building on our city's park. But in this defense, he fails to explain the complete picture. That is metro just approved the gift of metro land in our same district (his district) for 172 affordable housing units. In addition, Metro is leading, in our (his) district the plans to triple the density of apartments at Edgehill homes. Addressing affordable housing IS important. But it IS equally important to present the COMPLETE facts about how our immediate district IS addressing that need -- with land owned by MDHA and land that went through the APPROPRIATE city surplus process - NOT our parkland awarded in what all newspapers have called an irregular process and ALL involved have called for transparency!
If you follow twitter, and want to stay up to date on all of the data we've compiled to refute each one of these positions you can follow me @AliceRolli1 or you can look for the hashtag #RestoreTrustInMetroGvt
Please take a minute this weekend to find another friend to support the cause - and we'll hopefully see you on Tuesday September 12th at the 12NOON Metro Parks Meeting. Full details on the earlier post you can access below.
Yours in this most honorable fight,
Alice Rolli
