Citizens for the Future of Ft. Negley Park
18 juil. 2017
We are at 400+ supporters and growing. Keep up the energy! A helpful article in the Scene lays out many of the issues at play here. A few highlights below and a link to the full article follows. Thanks to Joey Garrison over at The Tennessean, we learn that the Fort Negley debate has taken a turn into the ridiculous. In good news, we learn that a proposal to return the stadium and parking lots to parkland has been put forth by local architect Ben Page. This is the same plan the Friends of Fort Negley were displaying at the community meeting last week. It’s lovely. [Page’s] plan has a large meadow garden that would have a new connection to the Nashville City Cemetery, which is currently separated by railroad tracks. He's mapped out space for a reflection pool to honor the slaves who died building the fort, an amphitheater, a multi-use pavilion, a large open lawn, and walking and biking trails throughout. He's suggested relocating the city's Battle of Nashville Peace monument, created in 1927, to the top of Fort Negley Park. It isn't a formal proposal with a price tag or even a final draft, but an attempt to show how a park-only concept could look. We’re talking about converting parkland into a neighborhood. Once that precedent is set, what’s to stop it from happening in other parks? Thank you for your support!
