Build retaining wall/stop land movement in Paradise Hills Sub/Lorraine Dr and Soco Rd

Build retaining wall/stop land movement in Paradise Hills Sub/Lorraine Dr and Soco Rd

The Issue

The land above Soco Road between Lorraine Drive and Sky Rock Rd (Paradise Hills Subdivision) is a slow moving landslide which has escalated over the past few years due to soil removal. This petition is to ensure the safety of the residents of Paradise Hill Subdivision, businesses on Soco Rd, and pedestrians that travel on Soco Rd; also, to relieve traffic backups on Soco Road due to work performed by DOT at the foot of the mountain. Possible landslides could cut off Maggie Valley Residents as well as cause death and destruction of property.

We are asking our elected officials and state agencies to construct a solution for this problem (more than a temporary mess).  There needs to be a retaining wall erected or some type of system that stops the land movement as the houses are currently being destroyed by this land movement.  Main water lines are consistently breaking causing residents to be without water during repairs and private roads are shifting.

It seems that no one is being held accountable for the damage/destruction being caused or any type of solution.  The State of North Carolina has known about this movement for many years. Since the State allowed this development as well as the widening of Soco Rd/Highway 19/Dellwood Rd, the State should be responsible for creating a viable solution.  The purpose of this petition is to get a safe, permanent solution.
