A short synopsis of today’s City Council Meeting about Historic Designation of 1817 Fifth Avenue and 1818 Colwell Street…
What happens when you put lawyers for the property owners who call your Uncle a murderer (which he was not), African American (which they pointed out during their call) property owners who indicate your family was racist and bigots - although they where great friends Gus Greenlee, paid for the building of the First Negro Baseball Field in the Country and part owner/VP of the Pittsburgh Crawfords), real estate agent who represents the buyer and the sellers, property owners whose family are actual criminals (for some reason, they continue to forget who they actually are) yet indicate the Tito’s were criminals and finally, the developers from Texas who promise to keep Pittsburgh’s essence in place once they rip everything down - during a City Council Meeting - you hear lies upon lies upon lies…it was mind blogging to witness the continuation of slander against my Family. Every hearing - the same rhetoric - the same words - the same money inducted untruths all for the blessed buck…it really should be illegal to be allowed to say untrue things in a formal setting like a Public City Council Hearing. Although they do it every day in a Court of Law. So there’s that…
Bottom line, in my humble opinion we are still in the fight and we have a better than 50 - 50 chance. And coming from a long line of gambling ‘professionals’ - I like the odds. And I’ll keep betting that the house wins - doesn’t the house ALWAYS win???
More to come…and again, thank you for everything you have done to support us.
All of the meetings are available online to review and watch. Including the infamous Historic Review Committee Hearing. You can see for yourself. Don’t take my word for it. Then PLEASE watch the City Planning Meeting to see how an actual professional and well informed panel receives, reacts and recommends based on fact, not fiction.
