In 2009, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) updated the evaluation of asbestos fibers and confirmed that all types of asbestos cause malignant mesothelioma (MM), and cancer of lung, larynx, and ovary in humans (Class 1), while the evidence was lower for pharynx, stomach and colorectal cancer (Class 2A).

The Scientific Consensus is clear that all forms of the Asbestos cause “Malignant Mesothelioma (MM)” and the main reason to ban Asbestos is that, there were no safe levels of asbestos exposure, the use of Asbestos could not be control and the lethality of all the forms of Asbestos was firmly established. The Supreme Court of Brazil shut down the Asbestos Industry in 2017 and prohibited the Mining, Processing, Marketing, and Distribution of Asbestos in Brazil.

The Scientific Commission Report on the Asbestos (Chrysotile) was submitted to the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan and as per the Report it is an internationally established “Hazardous” substance and in view of the threat to Public Health, its use should be banned to reduce exposure. The overall analytical data verify the presence of inhalable airborne asbestos (chrysotile) fibers found. Fifty-Two (52) Countries have banned/restricted the use of asbestos.
