Honor the promise: Safety, literacy, and growth for Cleto Rodriguez Montessori
The Issue
For five years, the families of Rodriguez Montessori have been told that our children’s success is a "North Star" for SAISD. Yet, every morning, our students cross a dangerous street with zero school zone lights. Every day, they walk past a library that has had no district-funded staff for Three years. Every year, our families face the "middle school desert," wondering why the 2020 Academy promise remains unfulfilled.
Cleto Rodriguez Montessori Elementary School is a beacon of hope and education; however, the environment in which our children learn and grow is far from ideal. Despite numerous promises from the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD), critical safety measures like school zone lights remain absent, putting our children at risk every day on their way to school. A child's life is priceless, and immediate action is necessary to prevent any potential tragedies.
Moreover, it is a known fact that literacy plays a crucial role in a child’s academic success. The absence of district-funded library staff for over Three years is depriving our students of essential reading experiences and resources vital for their growth and development. The library should be a thriving hub of learning and literacy, not a neglected corner of the campus.
In 2020, there was a promise for a new academy that would bridge the gap for middle school education—an aspiration that many parents hold dear as they face the "middle school desert" year after year. This promise should not remain a distant dream but should be transformed into reality to facilitate a seamless educational journey for our children.
We urge the SAISD & PMIA to take immediate and effective action by:
1. Installing school zone lights and implementing comprehensive safety measures for our children’s daily commute.
2. Hiring qualified library staff to rejuvenate the library, turning it into an active learning space once again.
3. Bringing the 2020 Academy promise to fruition, providing a much-needed middle school option to secure a continuous educational pathway ( K-8) .
By signing this petition, you are supporting the families of Cleto Rodriguez Montessori School to get the much-needed changes and uphold the promises made. Let us work together to ensure a safe, literate, and growth-oriented future for our children. Please sign and share this petition to make our voices heard and create a meaningful impact.
