Honor the Legacy of the Anointed Pace Sisters and LaShun Pace
The Issue
For decades, the Anointed Pace Sisters (TAPS) and the late LaShun Pace have ministered through music that touched hearts, healed souls, and ushered countless people into the presence of God. Their contributions to gospel music, particularly within the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and the broader Black church tradition, are immeasurable.
Yet despite their undeniable talent, impact, and influence, their recognition by mainstream gospel institutions—namely the Stellar Awards and COGIC leadership—has remained disproportionately low. Why has such a powerful legacy been overlooked?
This petition calls for:
A Lifetime Achievement Award and Musical Tribute at an upcoming Stellar Awards ceremony for the Anointed Pace Sisters and LaShun Pace.
Official acknowledgment and tribute by the Church of God in Christ, which nurtured and influenced their spiritual and musical development.
A public statement or segment from both institutions addressing issues of representation and colorism in gospel music recognition.
Let’s be clear: LaShun Pace was not only a vocal powerhouse but also a spiritual force. From “I Know I’ve Been Changed” to “Act Like You Know,” her ministry resonated in sanctuaries and streets alike. The Pace Sisters collectively have released multiple Billboard-charting albums, inspired gospel musicians across generations, and represented the essence of Atlanta gospel.
Still, darker-skinned, full-figured, and less industry-polished artists are too often excluded from accolades—despite their grassroots influence and loyal followings. While lighter-complexioned or crossover-friendly artists may be lifted quickly, voices like the Pace Sisters often remain in the shadows, celebrated by the people but ignored by the platforms.
Their contributions deserve flowers now—not just from fans, but from the very institutions that benefit from their legacy.
📣 We call on the Stellar Awards Committee and COGIC Presiding Bishop and Board of Bishops to:
Right this wrong.
Recognize this legacy.
Honor these gospel giants with the dignity and visibility they’ve long deserved.
Let the praise of their legacy rise like the songs they gave us.
Sign and share this petition. Let the industry know: we see the Pace Sisters. We honor LaShun Pace. And we demand they be honored too.
