Since launching the petition on December 31, 2024, we have reached 108 signatures. Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared—it’s clear this project resonates deeply.
As expected, there has been no response from the state thus far, but we remain respectfully firm in our stance. This issue will not be ignored indefinitely. Encouragingly, in a recent conversation with someone within the WV DHHR ecosystem, the effort to take stewardship of the cemeteries was met with understanding and even subtle hints of support. While this individual does not have decision-making authority, their positive response is a step in the right direction.
Progress continues across all aspects of Project Dignity. Within the next few weeks, we anticipate receiving the hand-engraved miniature models of the memorial stones from our artist. These will serve as powerful displays of what is to come. Additionally, we have an upcoming meeting with a grant-making foundation regarding an invitation-only grant. If awarded, these funds will directly support the acquisition of the necessary stones.
This project is about more than memorials—it’s about restoring dignity, honoring history, and ensuring those buried in these cemeteries are remembered and respected. We remain steadfast in our commitment to seeing this through.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we will make this right.
