Hello everyone,
Thank you for supporting this important cause. Seeing names—familiar and new, board members of WVSHI, and others—fills me with immense gratitude. Your belief in this mission humbles me deeply.
In just five days, this petition has gathered 55 signatures, averaging 11 per day. At this pace, we’re on track for nearly 1,000 in 90 days. Our ultimate goal is 2,351 signatures, one for each burial across the three cemeteries, including 11 I’ve personally confirmed beyond the official record of 2,340.
This effort will be one of WVSHI INC.’s toughest challenges, but I am fully committed to seeing it through, no matter what. This week, I consulted with an attorney and confirmed the state code protecting cemeteries wasn’t enacted until 1994, well after the grave markers were removed. While this isn’t about blame, understanding this history strengthens our case.
The cemeteries at Weston State Hospital are sacred ground, yet they’ve been neglected and disrespected for too long. Whether the law was broken or not, the real issue is ensuring these individuals are finally treated with the dignity they deserve.
Every signature matters. One, in particular, stands out—a person who once worked to preserve these cemeteries before their efforts were tragically lost. Their signature is a powerful reminder of what this fight represents: voices from the past joining ours to demand respect and care for these sacred spaces.
Thank you for standing with us. Please continue to share this petition. Together, we are making strides toward a better tomorrow for those interred at WSH cemeteries and ensuring their care is placed in the right hands.
Stay tuned for another update on Christmas Eve!
