Honor Our Heroes: Fund the Cobb Veterans Memorial
For nearly a decade, the dream of a Veterans Memorial in Cobb County, Georgia has been stalled by broken promises and political delays. This memorial was first envisioned by former Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee, who brought together respected community leaders, including Major General James Banker, Commissioner Bob Ott, and County Manager David Hankerson, to create a lasting tribute to the men and women who served our nation.

The vision was clear: a dignified, permanent place of honor for all veterans, built with the full support of the county. After reviewing several possible sites, Fairground Street was chosen as the location. The county approved the site, selected Croft Engineering as the design firm, and endorsed a plan valued at $3.5 million.

Community Support Is Strong
While the committee was never tasked with fundraising, Cobb citizens stepped up anyway, raising more than $1 million in private donations. That alone proves the deep desire in our community to see this memorial built.

But instead of moving forward, the county has repeatedly stalled. Costs have risen, promises of funding have been made and then withdrawn, and now, after 8 years, we are being told that county support is “doubtful.” To reduce costs, our architect even revised the design to bring it down to $4.1 million, but still the county hesitates.

It’s Time for Action
Our veterans answered the call of duty without hesitation. They fought for our freedoms, stood guard over our safety, and carried burdens most of us will never fully understand. Now it’s time for Cobb County to answer the call, by keeping its promise to fund the Veterans Memorial.

Enough delays. Enough broken promises. The time has come to honor those who gave everything for us.

What You Can Do
We, the citizens of Cobb County, urge our County Commissioners to vote YES to fund the Veterans Memorial and fulfill the county’s original commitment.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for the men and women who stood up for all of us. Let’s show our leaders that the people of Cobb County demand action. Together, we can ensure our veterans receive the permanent memorial they have earned.
