The Issue

To President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, National Assembly, and Federal Ministry of Defence,

We, the sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State, call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to officially honor Major General Philip Efiong (1925-2003).

General Effiong is from Ibiono Ibom LGA. He was the Chief of General Staff of Biafra and the man who, on January 15, 1970, declared the end of the Nigerian Civil War and said the famous words "No Victor, No Vanquished" — saving millions of lives and bringing peace to Nigeria.

Despite ending the war, he has never received a national honor. No barracks, no national monument, no official recognition bears his name in Akwa Ibom.

 We ask for:
1. A posthumous national honor (CFR or higher)
 2. Naming of the Army Barracks in Ibiono Ibom or Uyo after him
3. Inclusion of his role in ending the Civil War in Nigerian history curriculum

He chose peace when others chose revenge. Nigeria must not forget him.
